Licence Courses

In all cases, ADTS can supply the vehicle or you can use your own. Graduates from the courses will be credited with the relevant Unit Standards to their NZQA Record of Achievement in addition to receiving the course certificate.


Class 1 - Car Licence

To apply for a Restricted Licence, you must be at least 16½ years old and have held your learner licence for at least six months.


ADTS provide lessons to suit your competency and requirements. We can then we take you through a practical test of your driving skills required to gain your Restricted Licence.


Additional or on-going lessons can be provided as required.


Class 6 - Motorbike

We are a certified NZTA training provider for all Motorcycle training.  We run Basic Skills & Handling courses once a month.  Restricted & Full Motorcycle Licences are conducted by booking only.

Class 2 - Truck


The Class 2 licence course covers a Heavy Rigid Vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of between 6,000 kg to 18,000 kg or combination vehicle Gross Combination Mass (GCM) of between 6,000 kg to 12,000 kg.


All participants should have the relevant Learner’s Licence before starting the course.


3 day course with practicals. The course covers the following:


  1. Logbooks (Unit Standard 24089)
  2. Class 2 theory (Unit Standard 17574)
  3. Practical training
  4. Practical Assessment


On successful completion of our training programme you will be issued with an NZTA Driver Licence  which you will need to take to a driver licensing agent to upgrade your licence.  (Agents charge an extra fee for this.)


Class 3 - Truck

The class 3 licence covers a Heavy Rigid Vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of up to  25,000kg. 2 day course with practicals. The course includes:


  1. Class 3 theory (Unit Standard 17576)
  2. Practical training
  3. Assessment


Class 4 - Truck

The class 4 licence covers a Heavy Rigid Vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of more than 18,000kg.  2day course with practicals if you have Unit Standard 24089. Otherwise, 3 days to include Unit Standard 24089.  The course includes:


  1. Class 4 theory (Unit Standard 17576)
  2. Practical training
  3. Assessment


Class 5 - Truck & Trailer

A Class 5 licence allows you to drive a Heavy Combination Vehicle with a Gross Combination Mass (GCM) of more than 25,000 Kg.
Combinations: Truck and full trailer, Tractor unit and semi trailer(s), A trains and B trains


The course includes:


  1. Logbooks (This is not required if you've gained Unit Standard 24089 in the last 12 months)
  2. Class 5 theory (Unit Standard 17577)
  3. Practical training
  4. Assessment

ADTS give you a full day practical driver training in the vehicle. This ensures maximum confidence and capability.  Other trainers give only an hour meaning that you need to pay for extra time to achieve a good level of experience and self-assurance



The procedure for gaining endorsements is the same as for gaining the above certificates.


V - For tow truck drivers. Covers Unit Standards 24089 and 17580.


F - Forklift.  To gain a forklift operator safety certificate – 2 days for new operator or 1 day for renewals OR to gain an endorsement Unit Standard 18496.


D - Dangerous Goods.  To transport dangerous goods by road. 1 day course to gain Unit Standard 16718.


W, T and R - Wheels, Tracks and Rollers. Can be done individually or together. Discounted rates apply for doing all 3 endorsements. 1 day course covering theory and practical to gain Unit Standards 16701, 16702 and 16703.

DRUG TESTING - ADTS now offer drug testing.  This can be done for pre employment or random testing at your site or our offices.
